A glass material for glass spacers according to the present invention has a surface resistivity of from 103 Ω/sq to 109 Ω/sq at 22°C. In addition, the surface resistivity at 22°C of the surface of the glass material for glass spacers is lower than the surface resistivity at 22°C of the inner part of the glass material. A glass spacer according to the present invention contains, as a glass component, at least one oxide that is selected from the group consisting of TiO2, Nb2O5, WO3 and Bi2O3.
